Recycling Quilting Practice Pieces

I've been practicing on my prostitcher and recently worked on repeating a pattern.  I loved how it turned out and didn't want to discard it.  So, I figured I would re-purpose it into a table runner.  I spent Friday adding the binding around the edges while I was having a front door installed.  Whala, instant table runner for my long library table.  Also, here's a photo of my new front door.  As soon as it was installed, I added gallery glass to the door to give it some "color".  I love the look from the inside.  It gives us more privacy but you really can't see it from the outside unless we have the foyer light on.  I love the look of the colored stain glass without the price and without the permanency!  Happy Memorial Day and thank you all those in the military for your service!!

Spring Fever - No Sew

It's a good thing sometimes to take a break.  I have been trying different things and falling behind on my Block of the Months and pillowcase goals.  But, I've been enjoying the beautiful weather and sitting on the back porch watching all the birds/animals.  A couple weeks ago, I made a cup/saucer bird bath/feeder.  They are usually placed in the gardens but I don't have a garden.  So, I placed it along all our other bird feeders and baths.  For the longest time, I could not catch anyone on it.  Until just recently.  I was able to capture the photo and I love it.  To me, it's almost like the bird is saying... hey lady, do you mind, I'm eating here.  Have a great day!!

Waiting to Save Time

It's funny how sometimes we will wait for something we ordered to come in.  That something we ordered is supposed to save us time.  For exampled, I ordered a flower die cut to add flowers to my Santorini quilt.  I just didn't want to cut out all that flowers and fusible web.  I waited patiently for it to arrive.  When it recently did, I cut out a sample flower and added it to the quilt.

Results for all that waiting to save time:  I think it gets lost in the hexagon blocks   It's a little too small I think.  I had planned on cutting out solid color flowers to match the solid blocks.  They are lavender, green, yellow and pink.  If I don't add them to the center of the blocks, maybe I can place them in corners where three hexagons meet.  Decisions, decisions usually make for new UFOs for me.

Mod Podge Angel

This photo holds special meaning to us and I wanted to create something to hang in our home with it.  This is a photo of an angel we have on our back porch.  I printed the photo on heavy photo paper.  Then, took a blank canvas you get at the arts and crafts store and smeared it with Mod Podge.  While wet, I added the photo and then covered it in Mod Podge again.  I let that set dry.  Finally, I carefully added my text around the photo using stickers and then added another thick layer of Mod Podge.  Let it dry and now we have our favorite photo art to hang in our home.  Works great for favorite family photos as well!

Flea Market Fabulous Find!

Don't you just love flea markets?  Our area is getting too many "professional" sellers but there are a few here and there that bring their household items to sell.  We were just on our last couple of sellers before we were going to head home.  Something caught my eye, wait... is that...it looks like my sewing table. I've been on the lookout for another one for either my sister or my serger.  When I asked how much they wanted for it... I waited...he answered...$10   What?  Sold.  Yeah!!!  The side pulls up and the door flips out for a longer table then.  It's in excellent shape!! I also purchased a full size batting for $1  It was a good sew day at the flea market!!

Cute Gypsy Quilt Kit

Sometimes I think the Joann coupons I watch for and save are costing me more in the long run.  Although I save a lot on purchased items (40% and 50% off), I tend to buy more.  So, I ask you, who makes out better?  Joann's or me.  hmmm..

Last stop, I came across this new kit I had not discovered before.  It was a cute boxed lap quilt kit called Gypsy Quilt Kit.  I love the fabrics in the kit.  They are so bright and fun!  Would be perfect for a young girl. It comes with 13 FQs and 1 piece 1/2 yard for binding.  The retail is $39 but never pay retail is my motto!  I'm trying to keep myself from going back and getting the queen size version with another coupon.  It has detailed instructions inside the box.  Who knew that a random pieced quilt would require such detailed instructions.  Now comes the fun part, following the directions. This will come in line after I finish my Santorini Lap Quilt and start/finish my Royal Menhi fabric Quilt!

Embroidered Initial Bling Bags

I have been procrastinating on completing two embroidered bags for my great nieces.  They are such adorable girly girls and love all things sparkly.  I did a simple script initial and name design on both of the bags.  Then, I pulled out the old "gem-master" from out of the cabinet and used it for the first time.  OK, now I want to bling everything.  It was soo simple!  I'm sure the little ones will like their new overnight bags, or toy bags.  They are simple denim bags that were pre-purchased.

I'm Back - Santorini Lap Quilt and Celebrations!!

Over the past week I've been busy celebrating and did manage to whip together a lap quilt top out of Moda Santorini layer cake based loosely on the Moda Bakeshop "Let your Imagination Bloom" pattern by Natalia Bonner.  It's not finished just yet.  I had to order more Santorini fabric to add applique flowers.  I won't be adding the text to the quilt and I'm going to use my AccuQuilt Go to cut out the flowers for the blocks.

We've been celebrating because we have been blessed with a clean pet scan for my DH.  I'm a little too private about things at times but, I would like to say that prayers are powerful to bring him from late stage to remission!!  Put those prayers in combination with constant positive attitudes and great care and they together can go a long way!!  Now, just tests every couple of months and continued prayers.  Amen.
